JAZZ GUITAR
This section explores some fundamental aspects of jazz guitar performance and its pedagogy. Transcribing improvisations is one of the most important and useful musical activity required in learning the jazz vocabulary with its specific phrasing. For the task I have included transcriptions of Wes Montgomery solos as well as solos of other great performers. The regular study of technique is essential and indispensable for the budding jazz artist who aspires to improvise creatively and spontaneously without restraint. Therefore, I have included technical exercises that explore various scale and arpeggio patterns. Under the heading voicings, the student will find different chord forms and exercises that have been developed to enhance rapid motor movement from one chord to the next. In the section entitled patterns you will find transcribed melodic lines that can be used to improvise on major chords, minor chords, dominant chords, or II-V-I progressions. Included are some of my original arrangements of classic standards for solo jazz guitar and an extensive recording list of fabulous guitar players.
